چکیده

specific antibody deficiency lias been recognized as an immunodeficiency. in order to investigate an antipolysaccliaride antibody defect as a cause of rcccttrent infections, 30 children were studied. patients who had been identified to have a major immunodeficiency or structural abnormality or a disease known to cause infection were excluded. tliirty patints, aged i to 13.8 years (mean age, 5.8; male; female, 13:17) were chosen; all liad normal igg and iggl. tiic level of iga, igg2 and lgg3 were of lower than normal in some cases. all were immunized with hih conjugate (pri'-t) vaccine, and 26 with pneumococcal vaccine. antibody responses were measured 4-6 weeks later. twelve showed a poor response to immunization: 8 to pneumovax 3 to hib and 1 to both. no correlation was observed between igg 2 level anil specific antibody responses to polysacciiaridc antigens. tlie infections were more severe and more frequent in children who responded poorly to polysacciiaridc antigens. chikircn who had infections in more than one site were most likely to have deficient antibody responses. these results show that assessment of specific antibody responses to challenge immunization is an essential part of the investigation of children suffering from recurrent pyogenic infections. the study confirms that measurement of immunoglobulin isotypes and igg subclasses atone docs not exclude significant hormonal immune deficiency.

Selective Antibody Deficiency and its Relation to the IgG2 and IgG3 Subclass Titers in Recurrent Respiratory Infections

Background: Selective antibody deficiency with normal immunoglobulins (SADNI) may be identified as part of distinct primary or secondary immunodeficiency disorders. The clinical manifestations include recurrent, often severe or prolonged, upper or lower respiratory tract infections. Objectives: To evaluate SADNI in patients with recurrent sinopulmonary infections and its relation to IgG subclas...

Interleukin 12 deficiency associated with recurrent infections.

A 3-yr-old female patient exhibited interleukin 12 (IL-12) deficiency that was associated with recurrent episodes of pneumococcal pneumonia with sepsis and other infections in the absence of fevers. The patient's peripheral blood mononuclear cells (PBMCs) exhibited normal proliferative responses to antigens. Immune responses, including in vivo production of antibodies to diphtheria, tetanus, or...

Evaluation of Iron deficiency anemia and BMI in children suffering from Helicobacter pylori infection

Background Recent studies suggest an association between H. pylori infection and disorders such as iron deficiency anemia and growth delay. Considering the high prevalence of H. pylori infection and iron deficiency anemia, this study was performed in order to evaluate their relevance in children undergoing an upper endoscopy. Materials and Methods In this case-control study, children aged 2...

Serum antibody response to polysaccharides in children with recurrent respiratory tract infections.

We evaluated children (15-months old and older) with recurrent upper respiratory tract infections and normal levels of immunoglobulins in serum for specific polysaccharide immunodeficiency using an enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay method. Results showed that of 12 patients vaccinated with Act-HIB vaccine, one did not develop specific antibodies to Haemophilus influenzae type b, demonstrating t...
